As I have introduced the people who have made this possible, it dawned on me that I really haven’t written anything about who I am. So in the great words of Austin Powers, ‘Allow myself to introduce… myself’.

My name is Jay Dale Breitlow. I was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Susan and Dale Breitlow. To accommodate my father’s growing ambitions to become an administrator we moved to rural Central Wisconsin when I was in second grade. After four years living on a lake in a small community we picked up one last time and moved permanently to the Milwaukee area where he ultimately accepted a job as a Vice-principal of a suburb called Wauwatosa. While in High School my father passed away suddenly from a school related shooting and after graduation in 1997 I felt the need to get away and attend a non-state school and enrolled at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. After five great years at Purdue I graduated in May of 2002 with a Bachelors of Science in Nuclear Engineering.

After college I accepted a job to become a Nuclear Fuels Engineer with Dominion Generation in Richmond, Virginia. Before I started full-time, I had ambitions to travel and made a short two-month tour of Europe. Two years working the corporate scene and after many hours of internal searching I decided I needed two big changes; the first was to travel more and the second was to enroll in Chiropractic school. In June of 2004 I started traveling the South Pacific and Central America, including New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Guatemala, Mexico, and Honduras. After 8 glorious and liberating months traveling solo meeting many amazing people, I came back home to the USA to begin the long exciting journey toward becoming a Chiropractor. In March 2005 I started Chiropractic school at Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa where I am about to finish the final weeks of a three and a half year Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. In the meantime I have competed in two Ironman distance triathlons, 8 marathons and several shorter road races and triathlons. I am currently in the process of moving to Nebraska to work as an associate for two months in Omaha before I embark on the major ‘Journey’ overseas to work as a Chiropractic missionary in Madagascar.

I am the oldest of two, and my younger brother Ty works in the Heartland school district as a Social Studies teacher and the Junior Varsity Football coach. He is engaged to a wonderful woman from Appleton, WI named Katie and their first child, Brock is due this September. My Mother works as a nurse in the Veterans Hospital in Madison and enjoys walking and biking the Madison lakes, but not on them. My mother’s sister, Diane Dejardin is my Godmother and since I’ve been a little boy has been my spiritual rock. It is surely through her influence that much of my ground support is destined to be with the Catholic Church. There will be more on the growing relationship between the ‘Journey’ and Catholic Relief Serives/Catholic Diocese. Lastly but

certainly not least is my uncle Gary DeLain. He is a big time Chicago banker who is active with local 5k races and has a passion for pro and college football. Ask him anything. They are my backbone when I need to make tough decisions and have supported me on every step of the journey. For these four (and a half) people I am eternally grateful.
