Through the generosity of all our J2S friends we are excited to announce that we are heading to Accra, Ghana Feb 20th to promote peace health and Solidarity.  We had previously mentioned that there was some political tension and subsequent violence in Madagascar.  As of the middle of February things have not yet resolved.  Making a few phone calls and reaching out to some newly made friends, the Board decided that it was in the best interest to keep our dates and mission the same, however the inaugural Journey destination will be on the opposite side of Africa.

What do we know about Ghana? Ghana is an English speaking country (with other local dialects spoken) which is a bonus for Dr. Breitlow who had been learning French on the fly for Madagascar.  The politics of the country have been democratic since the 1950’s and considered ’stable’ by many standards.  The economy thrives.  Mostly reliant on natural resources such as gold and coffee, many people enjoy a higher GDP in Ghana than some of the other Western Africa neighbors.

The clinical experience will be in a vastly different setting from what was anticipated in Madagascar.  The expectations for Madagascar were mostly unknown.  Parks, churches, schools, beaches rainforests, huts and insert random location here, were all on the docket.  Now through the help of Dr. Marcus Manns and The Chiropractic and Wellness Centers (which contain a majority of Chiropractors in Ghana) Dr. Breitlow will be serving mostly in one location designed specifically for our mission.

The biggest bonus for us as a team is that we will have the ability to learn first hand HOW to establish a successfull ‘third-world’ based Chiropractic clinic.  Dr. Manns has four different clinical settings each with a different experience which is based on the level of disposable income the patient presents with.  The last week in Ghana (May 23-29), Dr. Breitlow will have the experience of working with several Doctors coming from the USA and participating in a one week outreach mission.  Truly a blessing to learn from an experienced tenured doctor who has had success in the colonization and pioneering of the profession.

We thank all our Affiliates and Donors who have made this all possible.  We stand by our committment to Madagscar and hope to begin our work there June/July of 2009.  Please continue to hold thoughts, intentions and prayers for peace not only for the people of Madagascar, but also those we will be serving later this month.  In gratitude and Solidarity.  -The J2S board.
